Spada Gallery Rome
Private Collections of Royal Families
Open from 9 am to 2 pm. Sunday until 1 pm. Monday closed.
Galleria Spada contains the art collection of Cardinal Spada and his family (Roman aristocracy of the 17th century). Interested in bambocciades, the cardinal was the protector of Guerchini and Guido Reni, two artists painting in this particular style. A bambocciades stands for realistic painting, which was introduced to Rome around 1630 by Pieter Van Laer, also called "il Bamboccio" (chubby child) because of his deformed face. |
